New Ride
« on: April 25, 2016, 10:31:23 PM »

Put 45 miles on the Ski Doo Saturday, and its time to put her up for the year. Did more waterskipping than riding on snow, and I don't much care for that. Did, however, kill a few ducks. (Purpose of the trip...bird hunting)

That said, next Thursday I am off to Anchorage to pick up my new bike. 2015 Kawasaki Versys 1000 LT. Going to spend 9 days there to familiarize myself with it, get some break in miles in. Hoping to put on 1000 miles or so.

I can't get a photo to paste. Its the jet black version...Google it.

My new ride... picked it up cheap from one of my neighbors last week.

Eventually,  my son will probably be riding it more than me.   He will be turning 16 next year.  Yikes!

Is that a 400? 400 rebels are pretty rare.
I understand the dilemma. Correct spelling takes time that could be spent licking the windows on the short bus.

Still a good bike... keep it in good condition and when you and the boy outgrow it you can probably sell it for what you paid. Lynn wanted a Rebel and I was looking for a 400 but couldn't find one. I knew she would be bored with the 250 after a month so I got her the Suzuki 650 Blvd. another good bike as far as use/resale. I put tires and a battery in it while we had it and sold it for what I had in it after two seasons.

That's what I was figuring.  It's in perfect shape.  It's an 06 with 4300 miles on it.

How many miles can you expect to get out of a bike?

There are Honda Gold Wings out there with 300,000 miles. Our F650GS BMWs are known for going over 100,000.

As with most things depends on how it is used and taken care of. If you try and run the highway with your little 250 you will kill it trying to keep up with traffic but for city and back roads it will probably go over 50,000 miles easily.

Thanks.  Good to hear.  I expect it will be back roads, running to town and back, son will ride it to school, etc.   Don't really plan on running the highway.
