please show me a study that supports your claims then...  you've offered up nothing more than anecdotal "evidence" from your experiences...

I've had my '07 Touring Edition for 22 Months. I'm 53 and it was my first imported car. Just passed 128,000 miles on it and all I've changed are the Tires (on my 4th set, only disappointment), filters, and the oil. Incredible vehicle. When I think of how much I spent on repairs to get my many American cars over 100K miles, it explains some of Detroit's plight. No reason Detroit can't make cars this reliable. Just not a priority for them. We'll all be watching how they do now. I'm pulling for them to re-emerge, but I'll never settle again for mediocre reliability and durability. If Detroit can't make a better, safer, more reliable car than a Prius - and soon - then what value are they adding to American quality of life? Not sure we need them!

Hi

I just turned 100,000 over the weekend with my 05 Prius. It is running like it is brand new. I am a distributor. I bought it used fourteen months ago with 51,000k.

I use 5W 20 Amsoil XL synthetic oil. Two of my fellow distributors have bought them since I bought mine. One fellow has put on 70,000 miles since April, 2008. We plan to run them out to at least 300,000 miles or more.

A wonderful car! Unbelievable, really.

My 2005 package 6 just turned 105,000 without a problem. To celebrate that milestone, I just bought an '08 leather steering wheel ('05's were not offered with leather steering wheels or interior) from an auto salvage yard in perfect condition. I plan (hopefully) to install it this weekend.

Well my 05 Prius just turned to 119k and my best friends 04 just turned to 174k! My car doesnt look a day past 20k!  I just installed Katzkin tan leather, got the entire kit w arm rests and door panels for less than 300.00. Just bought a stiffening plate and plan on installing it this weekend before i make the trip from Tx to IA.  I also purchased an 07 leather wheel from a salvage yard and plan on putting it in to complete my leather transformation!

Here's a 100K club, there's a guy on there that went something like 333,000 before cracking it up in an accident.  Read up and listen to all the complaints... :beer2:

I purchased my 2004 on 3/8/2004.
I just hit 100K this morning (4/25/07).

Two complaints...
1. I would like to be able to adjust the air conditioner temperature without having to turn the fan on. I miss those old mechanical temperature sliders.
2. The odometer needs commas. I can't read my miles now with all those zeros.

I've pumped 1,945 gallons of gas into this car, but have saved 1,615 gallons (7,435 gallons saved compared to driving my truck to work). That works out to $3,770 in saved gas money compared to my previous car. make that $18,000 if I was commuting in my truck. Who says a hybrid can't pay for itself? Tony?

I replaced the OEM tires with Michelin hydroedges (after making the change I wish I had done it sooner rather than being cheap and making the oems last as long as I could - the hydroedges are the best tires I've ever had).

Other than the 3 items in the list below, I have only needed routine maintenance - oil, filters, wiper blades, two tailight bulbs.

1. Console armrest fabric came loose on the front edge after a few months. I glued it back in with silicone sealant. still looks like new today.

2. The plastic retaining tabs for the springs on the upper glove box lid broke off. I replaced the tabs with a couple of screws and washers.

3. On an overnight trip, I hit a coyote on a 70 mph interstate. It mangled the front bumper pretty good. $2,500 in repairs.

That is my complete repair list. No other car I have ever owned has had so few repairs. (Since I had the screws and washers and silicone sealant laying around the house, and hitting the coyote doesn't count because that wasn't the car's fault, I figure my total repair bill for 100,000 miles is $0.00LMMFAO... :floor:). And that includes the handfull of oil plug crush washers I got free from the dealer.

This car is the best car I have ever owned - by far.

yup, i see you've read dust-to-dust huh!?!?!  hybrids are among the most expensive cars in the world once societal energy costs are considered...  [/size] my f150 was mid pack and the jeep wrangler was among the cheapest...

Keep hitting the whip it can... :no2:

You've got the data, link it up with the source... :c-n:

Bunch of H8'ers, fruck I mean c'mon guys get on with your life.  The Prius has been a great vehicle for us, it's saved us a ton of coin over the past year and no issues.  I change the oil every 5K (hmm conventional vehicles are every 3K right?), pump 87 OCT in the tank and get 45 mpg's in the winter and low 50's in the warmer months.  The upfront cost are comparable with other midsized vehicles comparable equiped, so where is the issue?  Prius Envy, what a SOB... :hypocrite:

I made it a little bigger so you can read it. I didn't say they cost that much for you and I personaly to run.  ;)

Costs may/probably will come down some but the societal energy costs are still high.

Dipchit, the Prius is quiet when pulling juice off the battery...that was your boyfriend whispering in your ear

And in 5-7 years when the battery goes bad on the Prius, what happens to it?

Well when ever that happens the $2.50-$3.00 a mile cost to society starts to come into play.  ;)
BTW, Hummers cost society less per mile.

yup, i see you've read dust-to-dust huh!?!?!  hybrids are among the most expensive cars in the world once societal energy costs are considered...  my f150 was mid pack and the jeep wrangler was among the cheapest...

Yup, interesting reading. Seems my Focus was way down near the bottom, it far greener than a Prius. :laugh-til-cry:
As with most things you have to take it with a little grain of salt but those batteries take a LOT of salt.  ;)

The big green above is for OC not you Tony.

You too... :no2:

Let me put it to you like this, if it cost a manufacture X to produce a widget the cost is pushed thru to the consumer.  If this little POS is soooooooo energy laden as compared to "traditional" automobiles, that cost would be reflected in the price.  It's a myth my friend, a smoke screen... :c-n:

Geez, the only thing different than any other automobile is an 100lb battery...hybrid drive system with an electric motor.  That's it, the oil in the engine is black...5W-20 off the shelf.  The tires are stock in most shops, brake pads are metallic and a typical petro nozzle fits the tank opening for filling (doesn't require fill ups that often... :nana:).

Anyone see the Xerox of the Prius being made by AJ's favorite automobile manufacture...

SIGH...............

They are refering to........ societal costs

Not your costs. not my costs, the costs to society

You don't think it costs ME 75 cents per mile to run my Focus do you??

Even if you dump a whole bag full of salt on the research there's still something to it.
It costs way over TWICE as much for just about ANY hybrid.

As long as I'm at it I might as well take a pee on ethanol to.  (we should have an icon of the little guiy taking a pee) :floor:

LOL, just like arzeholes we all have our own opinion.  I'm not a big ethonal mark either, but a 10% cut into petro is 10% less going over to a towel head so someone like Tony can commute in a penis extender.  Some of you just don't get it, it's not one single magic bullet that will free us from this cycle we find ourselves in with crude.  Most of these "new" technologies will fail, but not trying and encourage new types of technology is just plain ignorant.  Consider me a pioneer with my Prius, that technology or a form there of will find itself into your 1/2 ton self gratification piss on the rest of you commuters... :c-n:

my contribution to green living is having an organic garden for my girls this year...  They want strawberries and tomatoes.  So, we are going to do 2 of those square foot gardens.  All organic and green, I'm gonna start hugging my autumn blaze maple in the back yard too.

I just planted 10 new trees on Saturday.   If they take, I will be removing some of the birch trees I have that seem to attract the Japanese Bettles.     Also, going to have a full garden again this year.
