SIGH...............

They are refering to........ societal costs

Not your costs. not my costs, the costs to society

You don't think it costs ME 75 cents per mile to run my Focus do you??

Even if you dump a whole bag full of salt on the research there's still something to it.
It costs way over TWICE as much for just about ANY hybrid.

As long as I'm at it I might as well take a pee on ethanol to.  (we should have an icon of the little guiy taking a pee) :floor:

Now there's a real waste of taxpayers money. :banghead:
There is a real greeny wienie feel good line of bull.  :no2:

LOL, just like arzeholes we all have our own opinion.  I'm not a big ethonal mark either, but a 10% cut into petro is 10% less going over to a towel head so someone like Tony can commute in a penis extender.  Some of you just don't get it, it's not one single magic bullet that will free us from this cycle we find ourselves in with crude.  Most of these "new" technologies will fail, but not trying and encourage new types of technology is just plain ignorant.  Consider me a pioneer with my Prius, that technology or a form there of will find itself into your 1/2 ton self gratification piss on the rest of you commuters... :c-n:

Society cost, go dutch rudder someone else with that chit... :no2:

changing your behavior will do more fro the environment than any vehicle you can purchase to "enable" your further addiction...  I've altered MY behavior to fit the new "rules of the game"...  by carpooling and telecommuting...  in a years time I bet I buy less fuel than you do...  a change in behavior is a much better solution than enabling current behavior...

penis extender??  haha!!!!  down to personal attacks now huh???  a libs last resort...  discredit the messenger and your arguments become valid??   :floor:  nice...  i thought you were a better adversary than that....   :nana:
Blessed is the marksman for he shall never go hungry nor will he miss the guys running away with his television.

Very good point Tony, carpooling is one piece of the puzzle that makes an immediate impact.  Funny when petro was high 3's sub 4's, people were getting the message and did start to carpool.  Sadly most around us have forgot the conservation measure in favor of ME...ME...ME.  Not to worry, petro prices at the pump up .10 in two weeks and the summer price increases are underway... :c-n:

I just planted 10 new trees on Saturday.   If they take, I will be removing some of the birch trees I have that seem to attract the Japanese Bettles.     Also, going to have a full garden again this year.

Same here K, started our seeds on Friday when the shorty was off from school for the day.  Garden is growing to be twice in size this year, our corn harvest is going to grow 5-6 fold this year...

Also, going to try growing a number of tomato plants in the "topsy turnover" method in hanging containers...

We've had a garden for the 30 years I've been here and there was a garden here for many years prior to that. We don't do corn because we have about 50 acres of corn in the fields around the house so just a short walk and we have all the corn we need. Jersey Tomatoes and Jersey Corn Mmmmm Mmmmm good.

Our house has been "green" (we used to call it energy efficient) since we built it. Heating, Hot Water, Cooking and Clothes Dryer all run on Natural Gas.
Gas bill in the winter is less than $100.00/month and a quarter of that when we are out of heating season.

I understand the dilemma. Correct spelling takes time that could be spent licking the windows on the short bus.

the garden grows as we speak.  I think I'm up to 3 4'x4' grids.  Trying to run this all organic, but we will see how it works.  I'm concerned about any types of bugs getting on tomatoes and strawberries.  Should be a fun experiment and good learning for my 2 young daughters.  Got some of the seeds in starters indoors right now.

Thinking of throwing in one or two pepper plants into that mix also.  What are you using for containers?

Since the wife has be slinging paint in pretty much every room, I've been cleaning out the one gallon containers to use.  Thinking of also installing a 4'X20' raised bed to grow some strawberries and such...

I cut up milk jugs and stuff like that for larger transplants, then transplant and toss out the containers. For smaller stuff I just buy them chincy-plastic crinkly trays, they're easier to handle, 24 seedlings in one they can be moved around instead of a bunch of individual containers. For the couple dollars they cost I think they work best.

My brother actually bought the "topsy-turvey" thing, I looked it over and the box and it says you can grow cukes, peppers, tomatos and something else... Kind of limited, but thinking these are high stress plants that's why they're recommended for the unit... I'm going to make my own "topsy-turvey" units as I've collected a few of them cheap plastic bait buckets where I plan to use the lid for the top, a piece of plastic with a hole and some foam is all that's needed for the bottom. Use blue or green plastic tarp for the sides.

I've decided that the only thing worth planting are herbs - the rest of the stuff, tomatoes, peppers, corn and all that crap are cheaper and less work to buy at the store or farm stand.  unless you planting an acre and cannin it you aint got enough to make much more then a serving or 2 at dinner - unless its tomatoes and cucuNow if mbers which will over run your garden and you won't be able to get rid of them. Now if you got lots of time on your hand you can make tomato sauce and pickles - but how much of that are you goin to eat.  yule need to plant dill weed in your garden for picklin and then burn up electricity or fuel to heat up the pressure cooker for canning.  Then will you trust the gnarly looking lid when you open them up 5 months later?  Gardening is the least green thing you can do.  Healthy maybe - but wait til the japanese beetles find your stash

Hey obamamaniac.  You sound like the "Ultimate Hayseed."  You gonna free range those birds and walk the yard barefoot in your straw hat smoking the weed in your corn cob pipe?

You want to do something for your country?  Invest your time participating in a local TEA PARTY.

Wednesday, April 15, thousands of people are expected in all 50 states to join together for over 500 “tea party” protests.  Those attending the tea parties will be standing in opposition to rising taxes, more government control over private enterprise and less individual liberty.  If you agree with any of the following, you might want to join the party on April 15 to let your voice be heard.

1.You don’t mind paying reasonable taxes, but you don’t believe your wealth should be “spread around” in the manner Congress and the President are proposing.

It’s not that we believe there should be no taxes. Government is a necessary institution for the preservation of our liberty. By its very nature, government is compulsory and will tax us. But the taxing power should be used only according to constitutional principles, to fund the limited, constitutional functions that private individuals and voluntary associations cannot do for themselves.”

2. You believed Democrats when they spent the past eight years criticizing President Bush for deficit spending, and you are upset that in just over three months President Obama, along with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, have tripled the deficit.

3. You believe the “Stimulus” bill contained too much pork and not enough stimulus.  You believed candidate Obama when he promised to reduce earmarks and reform the earmark process, then were outraged when he signed a bill containing thousands of earmarks.

4. You oppose the current bailout mentality and oppose the bailouts, both past and future.  You not only fear the amount of debt funding the bailouts adds to your children and grandchildren, but fear the exercise of control the government is exerting over those it “bails out.”

5. You believe businesses should not be under attack by the United States government, especially during a tough economy and you oppose increased government control of the private sector.

OH...I forgot.  Your Green "Cap/Trade Messiah is the answer for the planet.  Carry on with your Prius and Chickens... :laugh-til-cry:

100% agreed, though I feel a lot better knowing where the chit comes from... My ol' lady came home with a bag of Alaskan "King" Crab she said was on sale.

I'm like; o'rly

Look at the bag a couple seconds... Anyone care to tell me how they process Alaskan "King" Crab in China???

Let's see: catch some crab off Alaska, ship it to China for packaging then ship it to the US for consumption... What kind of profit model goes into that? Is it really "Alaskan" King Crab or something that looks similar... I wouldn't eat it, she did and said it was 'fine.' Not 'really good' just 'fine.'

In all I don't grow to sustain, but rather to compliment and we do grow herbs... A few tomatos, peppers, strawberries and chit like that.

well it's the square foot garden method.  basically you take a 4'x4' square of 2x6 lumber then fill it with a soil mix, then you can grid it into 1 sq ft sections and maximize your plantings.  My dad used to do it when they lived up here.  Works exceedingly well if you can keep the rabbits/deer out.  He had like 2 tomatoe plants that produced more than we could eat, just did the basics like tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, sweet peppers.
