I am proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks
Thanks guys!  I'm 52 so I don't expect it to help my career too much, but it's something I've just wanted to do for a while.  Who knows what will come of it?   Hal, good for you!!   Greekboy, I'd go along with that roadside bait selling idea too.   I don't have grandkids yet so my only thing right now with being too far out in the sticks is that it gets old having to drive 45 minutes one way to go shopping...   Amazon has become my go to.   I think UPS will deliver to any back road, won't they?    :floor:

I'm just burnt out. 24 years at the same job. It's just a grind. Zero enjoyment M-F at work. Lucky for me, I have a great home life and I day dream (all the time) about being at my cabin or motorcycling, snowmobiling, atv riding, boating or hunting. Having active hobbies keeps me young. Having two boys helps out too. I spoke with my union representative a few weeks ago and found out that the earliest I can retire is in 10 years from now. I would get a 20% hit retiring that early, but right now, I'm thinking that's the game plan.

At 57 I would just pass out flyers at lake homes by my cabin and just be a remodeling contractor / handyman dude. Try to stay busy a couple days a week and have a small income for day to day spending. I have two key assets that people want. #1) I show up. #2) I get sh!t done, when I show up.

That "Coyote" had to be some hacker or something....the original, gpoing back to the TC.com days and beyond, lived on Drummond Island where his wife was Postmaster (Misterss?) if I'm not mistaken. Carl (real first name, can't remember surname) died more than a decade ago....

Rode with Carl part of a day on Drummond Island till the crank went in my Indy 500......... (pretty sure he was married)
He gave me and the Indy a ride to St Ignace.
Interesting about his opinion on 2nd homes. (I'm assuming he was a Lefty)
Greekboys idea of a sledding cabin is one of the few times you could EVER convince me of a 2nd home was a good idea.
Kind'a like having a wife AND a girl friend. Good God ! One of each is enough !

Amen to that, brother.....

Lot-o-peeps have come and gone over the years....
I joined in 1998 ish. That same year I bought my very first "new" snowmobile. 1998 Indy 500 Classic. Loved that machine, regret selling it. We had several group rides early on, but it seemed to fizzle out around 10 years ago, although I still ride with a couple people on the board....

Way-back hats made me think of a couple weird dudes I've met here over the years....

Couple of crazy SOB's mostly debating political stuff. I had some throw downs with a couple wack jobs, to say the least.

But then, like 10 years - out of the blue. A guy named Coyote PM'd me. 10 years ago I purchased a little log cabin out in the woods of the UP. Mostly for snowmobiling and a little for summer stuff too. I was excited, so I posted up some pics and thought the guys would get a kick out of it..... A handful of the remaining board members still ride in the UP, or nearby Northern WI or Northern MI.

Well Coyote was apparently a socialist.
He sent me a private message, stating that he believes no body should be able to own a second home, until every body else has a first home.

My response was pretty severe. I think I told him, I worked twice as hard as everyone else and I deserved twice as much in return. That's the beauty of America. You want more, you work more.

Some people out there, just have some strange opinions about how American ought to be vs. how it really is.
He past away since then, and I hope he never drafted a will, so that his one home got raped by whatever state he lived in and his kids got 50% or less. That's socialism Coyote - enjoy the after life being piss ass broke.  :nana:

10-4, the red school house sounds good for breakfast. Maybe we can leave a car there and all run up together. I touch base with you as we get closer...

My oldest is having 5 teeth pulled on Friday and he still wants to go to the snow show. I'm assuming he'll be down for the count, but if there is any chance possible, he might be able to make it on Sunday, even if he's all doped up on pain meds....

Milwaukee Snow Show is Oct 12-14 this year.
I plan on running up there on Sunday AM. Need to pick up some odds and ends .....  :ninja:

Oddly enough, I purchased a new jacket, bibs and helmet last season and my new machine happens to match my gear. Now I just need some boots, gloves and other odds and ends... Who am I kidding, I'm only going in hopes just to smell two stroke oil burning too.....

Thinking of selling off everything, moving to my cabin and selling bait on the side of the road.  :thumbsupsmileyanim:
I'd do the same thing if I could get my wife to go for it. (actually, I'd get my Federal Firearms License and open a gun shop)

Yes, my wife also lacks my vision.....  :ninja:

Iím in one of those too...  mid life crisis.  Switched jobs and decided to go back to school (online).  I know Iím too old for that, but just something Iíve been wanting to do.

You're never too old to go back to school, K. I was 46 when I went back to get my DBA certification.
I was 59 years old when I passed my professional engineer exam. It didn't help my career, but still glad I did it.

Congrats Hal, that's impressive !  :beer2:

Good luck with it all ! You're never to old to do anything in life !
I think the only real challenge is finding a job. Seems like everyone is looking for cheap college kids to fill in the blanks these days. All I deal with are 25 year old "experts" with NO field experience, but they all know how to reference the field manual as if that was ever going to work. Its all so frustrating. I'm too young to retire and too old to start over. Thinking of selling off everything, moving to my cabin and selling bait on the side of the road.  :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Looks nice - we going off trail again?

I hope so! My sled is 11'-6" long ! According to all the experts, this is supposed to be a 50/50 machine. So I'm looking forward to seeing what it can doo.....
