General Snowmobile Discussion / 1981 eltigre resto
« on: April 11, 2018, 05:58:51 PM »
Due to another weird low riding winter I was compelled to keep the memories alive.  Back in late 1980 when I was about 13, my parents agreed to buy me a new sled with the $250 I had saved. My choice was between a new pantera or a new eltigre 5000 both similarly priced. $2250 I believe was the number. My dilemma was to go with the 500 fanner with e/S, oil injection, and map light....or go with the 500 f/A with sportier looks but seemingly less features. Remember in 80 info was limited...there was no web, and magazine articles were about nill to a 13 y.o kid with limited resources. Now I have both and I love it!  Had I known as a kid the tiger was lighter and with 10~ish more hp, I would have chose that one.

I had a continuing misfire at idle this past weekend that got worse from the weekend before.  It was dropping a cyl at idle and then it started to drop a cyl at WOT.. intermittently.  Was a huge pia to get it to the dealer.....buried trailer pia.  I'm told there was a loose coil pack plug topper.  ???  I gave those a quick look before loading it up and they were on there tight.  Dealer says there was water and corrosion in the plug well.  Seems to brp should be using dielectric on these.  :nono:
  I hope that was it.

Dodge gets knocked off its two year throne.  Fords all new aluminum body gets dissed.  Gm takes one and two.  Canyon / Colorado sure to impress.     10% smaller than a Silverado.....why not just get a Silverado?

So parts ny gets more snow in one storm than we avg for a winter........I been busy polishing up one of my Cats.  This one is for sale.

General Snowmobile Discussion / Called it.

150 miles Saturday.  We rode 9 times this winter...all Saturday's.  1400 miles for season.  Riding did not start till mid jan.  Still lots of snow but grooming has essentially stopped and trail connectors here and there are becoming victims of the very hot late march sun.  We have had some rain come through and warm temps with sun predicted for this week will surely take toll on the snow conditions.  Might have been able to squeak out a couple more rides especially via trailer but those days are behind me.
011 F-8 has completed its 4th season.  Zero trouble but for the annoying electric starter that requires constant attention ala clean & lube.  150+ mile range regularly on premium.  Consumption of spectro has been conservative.  Still on original belt.
Damn good sled.   Gonna be a long cold wet spring.   :bye1:

As I was trying to get my money's worth with the 12hundy renegade, I was running it the last several weekends as I awaited it to sell.  Thankfully, its gone....and I was back on my F-8 this past weekend.  just under 200 miles on sat.  Sooooooooo much better the Cat is than the xr / xp I have owned. I could have gone another 100....I'm usually spent after 1 hundy on any donkey.  No handlebar death grip here, just smooth fast secure handling without the silly auto braking or cold ride.  :specool:
 Just sayin'   :nana:

I was too busy to dig out the oldies last storm covered them good.   When I did get them out, I went about 100 yards through 2.5' in my woods before bogging down into stuckville.
