The latest addition to our stable.  Fresh gas, fuel lines, carb kit, and it's alive. Everyone who sees this on the trail loves it.

General Snowmobile Discussion / #68 Dominates!
« on: November 30, 2015, 05:20:12 PM »
The guy is a freak of nature.  Racing the Amsoil Duluth National at age 31 Tucker was so much better than the rest of the pro field it was undisputable.  Love him or hate him, no other rider is in the same category of skill and conditioning.  Or could it be he rides the best equipment?  :stirthepot:

General Snowmobile Discussion / El Tigre' 5000
« on: November 06, 2015, 05:38:38 PM »
Made one grass race in September with the El Tigre'.  Double classed running stock and modified which gave us some extra track time for testing.  My best friend piloted in modified as he's 40-50 lbs. lighter...  Me on the line, 1st out of the gate.

General Snowmobile Discussion / 2014-15 Season Review
« on: March 16, 2015, 04:24:25 PM »
Strange year.  Good snow in November then shut down most of December-February.  Didn't groom the trail until March and only once all season.  Temps in the 60's this weekend and now its done.  Only went on one trail ride all year and it was the first weekend in March with some vintage guys.  Otherwise one weekend of drag racing in February and a few times testing on the lakes in January.   Vintage El Tigre never left the garage and about 130 total miles on the T-cat.  Hope this place survives the summer.

Has the infamous Porker Run expired? Can Ultimate Snowmobiler continue without this signature event?  :c-n:

General Snowmobile Discussion / Who's riding?
« on: December 15, 2014, 09:25:03 AM »
The season looked promising early with cold temps and some big snowfalls.  The last several days have been brutally warm and everything has now turned to soup.  Its raining here today...  Anyone riding yet?

General Snowmobile Discussion / Amsoil Duluth National
« on: December 02, 2014, 11:10:59 AM »
I didn't make it up to the hill this year but it appears Tucker and Arctic Cat are still the team to beat.  I don't recognize as many names in the field as I did years ago but as I get older I follow it less.  Is popularity of snocross on a downward trend or are we just getting older?

Felt like a solid December snowstorm yesterday.  It won't be long now.

General Snowmobile Discussion / Fall Snowmobile Obsession
« on: October 06, 2014, 08:27:22 AM »
Vintage grass drags are the most fun I've had with snowmobiles in years.  First event I finished screwing it together on a Friday evening and pulled it off the trailer at the race untested Saturday morning.  It was my first time out so I had no starting line procedure or experience running on grass.  Here it is in the pits ready for action.

General Snowmobile Discussion / El Tigre Grass Racer
« on: August 25, 2014, 10:03:01 AM »
Spent Friday at the Outlaw Grass Drags & Swap in Princeton MN and was able to cobble enough parts in the swap area to get my old 78' El Tigre 5000 back into shape.  AJ did a beautiful job on his 84' and I thought hard about doing a restoration but decided instead to do a grass racer.  Spent the weekend preparing the suspension and track for grass, dropped the gearing down with a different pitch chain for approximately 500-600 ft.  Will need to jet down and find a clutch setup.  Bought a factory tach at Princeton so I can see where the RPM engages and peaks.  Added a tether which is required.  The El Tigre already had a Comet 102-C when I got it which will improve tuning over a stock primary.  Motor, secondary and pipe need to be original for stock class.  Pictures forthcoming...

General - NON Snowmobile Discussion / Tarp Tape Anyone?
« on: July 01, 2014, 12:31:33 PM »
Heading to the lake on Thursday and the seats on our 1995 Seadoos have seen better days. I picked up a product called Tarp Tape at the hardware store.  It's supposed to be flexible and waterproof.  Recommends heating for best adhesion.  Thought this stuff might hold our ski seats together for a weekend or more until I get them recovered.  Seems to have bonded well but who knows how it will hold when we hit the water...

Anyone ever use this stuff?  Good results?

General Snowmobile Discussion / March Riding Grade A
« on: March 10, 2014, 02:52:22 PM »
It doesn't get much better than March riding.  Lunch on the grill, small campfire along the way, and a few laughs.  Spent the entire afternoon out in the sun to ride around 20 miles on the El Tigre.

General Snowmobile Discussion / Muscle Sleds Continued...
« on: February 24, 2014, 09:35:23 AM »
Couldn't pass on this one...  It's a 5000 free air model.  Has spark and compression, suspect a fuel problem, owner wanted it gone.  Overall should be a respectable rider once it's cleaned up and running.

General Snowmobile Discussion / Polaris 600 carb flanges
« on: February 16, 2014, 07:06:47 PM »
2008 IQ 600 idling high.  Carb flanges separated.  Sled has 1800 miles stored properly.  Is this common for these machines?  Plugs show lean...
