Last season we had some hard trails from freezing rain and the new eltigre 8000 was very sensitive to that.  Hot light came on a few times causing him to pullover and shut it down.  Our 7000 and 1200 machines both have a radiator so we had no issues.

Honestly RD, even if conditions are bad - I still go on the trips. Just to get the heck out of IL alone does me good. Then factor in spending time with friends and now that my two sons ride, it's all good ! Last year we drove (2) vehicles up North on 2 or 3 trips, just so we could trailer further North (if needed). On two trips, we had to. I've been looking for a cheap four place trailer, for that purpose alone, but haven't been able to find something I like (yet).

This year my oldest son retired from travel hockey, so the plan is to do some real riding  :punk: Hoping for some backpack trips and some days off of work and school. Hit it hard and take advantage of the time away from home. Last year was the first time the boys rode in different geographical areas of the UP. It was a real nice change in scenery. The only weird thing was that I was really freaked out about navigating, so not to get lost or run out of fuel. It's been 10 years of me riding around my cabin straight. I forgot all my old trails / routes.
Good for you GB. I wish I had a couple boys of my own but that never happened. I did have a nephew I essentially raised due to absent father and loco mom, but he somehow got millenialized and turned into an ungrateful user with zero loyalties.  We no longer have a relationship.  Resorted to riding with wife and a couple die "a bit harder than most" buddies. Most have given up snowmobiling over the years.
I hope your boys  stay together with you as play together stay together didn't work for me.

Anyone else in for a new over priced tall cold ride for next winter?  I'd give ya my review of the 018 eltigre 8000 w/ 1k miles in the stable but my dali-lama license expired.  I left hints in here however.  lol.   I glanced at the turbo donkey but beside the MSRP shock I was impressioned with its atv like appearance.  Ever ride an atv in the winter? I did....once.  'nuff said.
I guess Im in for new shocks instead on the battle cruiser.

AJ, your license is here by renewed.  Other than my '18 el tigre 137" having the infamous "flame shooting exhaust" , I had no issues with my sled.  Granted, the first thing I did was put on a tall windshield and mirrors.  2200 miles on it last season.  Just waiting on Cat to do something about the flaming exhaust.  They must be pushing that expense out to the first quarter of 2019.

What was under whelming about your ride?
Keeping in mind this is my riding buddy's sled;
YEs the flame I have seen a couple times as a spectator.  lol.  Not sure whats going on there other than unburnt fuel hanging around in muffler. His has not melted or damaged anything. YEs real windshield and mirrors went on right away.   Electric start is finally well designed, at least appears to be with no crunching sounds like "a tossed down the stairs 6 million dollar man lunch box full of hot-wheels".
I'm not a fan of the pro-cross machines. I suppose I could get used to them but I see no need to yet. My thoughts are that rider CG is too high and I dont feel confidant on machine when riding it. Likely just me.  MY gsx is way more stable and even thought it too is pretty tall, I think its that extra couple inches on the PC that I cant get used to.
I have kept my ride height sit in pretty low for better handling and stability but believe I am riding now in the firm valving of the rear shock ( or mechanical leveraging) so ride has been seemingly getting worse as springs settle down more and more.   Time this season for a different shock, I have no use for that air feature which really is just for load accommodation.
Can you tell us more about your 018 tiger 8?

You will be in for a pleasant surprise this winter. Count on good snow amounts. I just have that feeling.  I'll be on same silver surfer. Enjoy!

I'm hoping for minimal thaws. Seems every year they wipe us out, at least twice.  :banghead:

81 tach is orange needle.  same as 84.  85 looked similar but a tad smaller bezel and hole is about 1/8" smaller too....at least I think so as its loose in hole with out an big o-ring to fill it. .  86 up had oil light.
I may have to send mine out for repair. Both my gauges are from 85.
Decals are in! Ill post when done sometime this winter.

Pantera track 16 X 115 I think tiger was different somehow...pitch maybe?

That thing is beautiful!  Nice work my friend.  My old grass racer turned out alright too.
Nice. Cleated track? Those are fun when crossing the road lol.  Look at my handlebars carefully. I took out some of the pull back. What you think?  I'm in search of a tach.  My instruments are from 85 model I believe.  in 86 they went to oil injection with a oil light in tach. I guess the 85 gauges are as rare as the 81.

The guy that has nice reproduction decal sets for these got cancer and availability is in limbo. My guess is by next fall I will be able to get new decals on this beautiful hood.

I got the belly pan pretty straight. I'm thankful for the air powered riveter!   The studs are out, track is in excellent condition luckily.

Due to another weird low riding winter I was compelled to keep the memories alive.  Back in late 1980 when I was about 13, my parents agreed to buy me a new sled with the $250 I had saved. My choice was between a new pantera or a new eltigre 5000 both similarly priced. $2250 I believe was the number. My dilemma was to go with the 500 fanner with e/S, oil injection, and map light....or go with the 500 f/A with sportier looks but seemingly less features. Remember in 80 info was limited...there was no web, and magazine articles were about nill to a 13 y.o kid with limited resources. Now I have both and I love it!  Had I known as a kid the tiger was lighter and with 10~ish more hp, I would have chose that one.
