General Snowmobile Discussion / Re: New Iron

I've run across a dealer or two like that.
Zirt nails is though. "It will be a little while before we can accommodate you".

Hoping the price goes down in the fall
I've been looking around for the same sled at a different dealer, but the backcountry model is difficult to find (left back savings).

Buy getting a 2018 model, I stand to save 20% - so that's my justification.....
Now I can spend $2,500 on new apparel  :punk:

I think I have it narrowed down to a 2018 Ski Doo Renegade 600 Backcountry. It's a good compromise for the kind of riding I do and it has almost all the features I want in a sled. The internet price is around $2,600 off, as it's a left back model, so I assumed they'd just uncrate it, prep it and sell it. However they made it clear that at a certain date, they stop dealing with the sleds and they focus on their summer stuff. I just felt that to be really odd.

It's hard to sell sleds in the winter, how many people call you in the spring or early summer ? Only dumb asses like me.... LOL.....

This is odd. I actually called a dealer to make a deal on a left back 2018 model machine, and they actually told me "No" call us back in October / November......

They are a big boat / wave runner dealer and they just shut down the sled stuff - once the season ends.

I still thought that to be really odd. You'd think they'd bend over backwards to sell a sled in May / June ????

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like he enjoyed life and lived it well.  :beer2:

Sleds turning out nice AJ !

I need to start restoring my 06 REV. This year I noticed the track was starting to chunk out. I guess I'm not surprised, seeing that I have 9,900 miles on the machine

Got my new iron picked out, just need some balls to pull the trigger on it.
Have you seen the light, and coming to Polaris or sticking with DooDoo
I don't want to hyjack AJ's restoration thread - you just gotta keep on the cliffhanger. It might take a while for me to grow those balls, as my real estate tax bill just arrived yesterday  :'(

Well, I'm pretty damn bummed..... Had to cancel my last sled trip due to kids sports....... Seems to happen every year...... My oldest kid won a state playoff game he wasn't supposed to win and they advanced to the final 8 teams in Illinois State Tier 2 hockey playoffs. They play a three game round robin and 8 teams turn into 2 teams at the end of the weekend. Then the final 2 teams move on to play at the United Center in Chicago (Chicago Blackhawks Home Ice). Its a long shot (trust me), but I can't go riding while my kid is playing round two playoff hockey

Hoping we get some spring storms rolling in and maybe we can play in the woods mid-March??
So what? your cancelling already for this weekend?  Tom and I are going- they got 16 inches of snow since we left last weekend.  Just spoke to FlyinV - he and his son may come up also.  If your on the fence over pussing out - come up to Mercer.  We can always watch snow videos on the bigscreen TV we got now and exaggerate stories of past Porker runs.  Last week we watched a bunch of Johnny Skeptical yamaha vids - I didn't realize how good those were
Andy,
Fireball Dave and I were supposed to head up with GB.  Where about you going to be riding?  Maybe we will find a hotel room up that way and meet up.
Did you guys ever make it up?  Saw someone pull up on a Doo but then turned and went back out on the lake
I ride Poo Poo Fireball rides Doo Doo.   :)  We did not make it up.  Fireball was sick.
did he eat mushrooms again?

Hard to forget the mushroom "situation"  :mf_Flush: LOL....

My local trails (South / Central UP) are pretty much spent. Around one hour north of me is still decent, but unless they get real snow, I just don't see it happening. MI trails close in 2 1/2 weeks. We'll see what happens. Hoping to get in one off trail ride, if we get some spring snow ??  :snow:

Wasn't a horrible season for me, I got (1) ride in December, (2) rides in January, (1) ride in February and (1) in March. Only downer was that I'm 300 miles short on getting 10,000 miles on my REV. I was hoping to turn the clock, just to say I did it.....  :punk:

Well dirty Mike and the boys got one last ride in...... March 9-11.....

Friday we rode local trails from my cabin and did around 100 miles.
Rode 2 miles along the road to get to the trails - straight blacktop scratching sounds on all three of my machines.  :banghead:
Once we got into town, trails were VERY icy until we reached Iron River, MI. Then you could see a little more snow on the trails.
The grade was good & bad, any place the sun was beating down the trails showed bare stone / gravel, in the shade - totally able to ride.....
Made it to the Wooden Nickle for some burgers and beers.... Proceeded West towards Watersmeet, MI and ran trail 15 North to Sidnaw.
Conditions were great North of Iron River. Some icy corners, but overall good trail riding..... Once we got to Sidnaw, local riders told us the trail system to complete our loop sucked bad.
So, we ended up double tracking back the way we came. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't.....

Friday night, the rest of the posse filtered in. Johnny Z and Kingpin and Fireball. We toasted with some Spotted Cow and Krack'n Rum....  Always nice to see the group back together ! I miss riding with those dudes....

Saturday, we ran the trailers to Champion, MI. Around 1 hour N/E from our base camp.
We rode trail 5 up towards Big Bay, then took the 310 loop towards Marquette, then to Big Bay.
Stopped for lunch at the lumber jack in Big Bay. Ran around that area for a while, as the conditions on and off trail were pretty nice.
Again, doubled back the way we came on trail #5 due to time and distance. I had my two sons with (ages 14 &17) and didn't want to attempt the 250 mile day that we had planned from Champion, to Big Bay, to L'Anse, to Three Lakes, to Republic, back to Champion. Even with the much shorter route, my youngest son still managed to jump off the trail and fall into a culvert sunken depression along trail side - at the end of the day, he was beat tired.

Loaded up and drove back to base camp, cooked up some tasty steaks and planned on binge drinking all night long. As it were, we all fell asleep watching a movie holding beer cans at around 10:30PM  :floor: Oh well, that's how it goes when you work on the trail system, I guess....  :beer2:

We rode this weekend, but we rode further North.
Made it as West as Watersmeet, MI.

Ran the trailer on Saturday further North and found much better trail conditions.

Was that a weekly track inspection?

Hoping to put the sleds away better this year, than I did last year  :(. The older I get, the worse I treat my stuff. Just no time for maintenance anymore. Kinda sad....
Hoping to ride Friday and Saturday. Try to get back home by dinner time and spend 3-4 hours drinking and prepping machines for summer storage....
Just hope to drain gas, clean carbs, grease the skid and spray a little WD40 on the suspension x 3 sleds....
