My riding area is about to get blasted with a 1-2 foot snow storm

However, I'll believe that - when I see it.....  :ninja:

I get to ride on jack sh!t and overheat for a couple of days, then get stuck driving home in a snowstorm  :ranting:

No way to I want to go back to my hands down near my knees and my knees higher than my hips. Low riders are only for a racetrack.

I gotta say, if I were still riding xtra-10 sleds at my age, I'd be retired from all this.....  there are pro's and con's to the new style machines, but overall they have come a long way.  You're getting twice the sled at twice the price these days.....
No way are you getting twice the sled  lol.  Twice the cost yes, closer to triple.  I'm not seeing reliability increases either.  Speed limits are still 45.  Trails are better groomed more often and with better machines.  Tel me why we need to buy $15000 snocross designed sleds for the trail?  Has suspension travel doubled?  no. Seat height doubled...yup. lmao.  I say mfg trends have fallen away from market.  My proof is sales numbers.

Mnfr's continue to make these machines too fancy. Way too much electronics, etc. I have to admit, some of the stuff is pretty cool. BUT I'd much rather keep it simple and keep the costs down. I just can't afford what these new machines cost anymore.... Especially when you consider using them 5-6 weekends a year....

Hal, that's a age/experience thing. Or, looking cool/being smart.

Turtle vs Rabbit ? LOL.... I'm both, it all depends on what we're talking about....

The newer machines sit up so high as it is, then you add in the low windscreens and it makes it all that much worse. I ran my son's 2015 Polaris 550F x 144 a few weeks back and noticed a huge lack of wind protection on my chest and hands.

It's all about the bottom line.
Most sleds likely only see 5-10 miles at a time before stopping so a smaller, less expensive windshield not only looks more attractive (like the people who ride sleds like that) but it is cheaper to manufacture.

A bigger screen is often listed in their accessories catalog too. You want more protection? Buy it..... LOL.....
Mountain sleds don't even have one on anymore. I'm pretty stuck on buying crossover machines having a cabin in snow country / LES my place is usually hit or miss. Trails are normally good to go during the season, but LES snow is around 1 hour north of me, so I can always trailer further if need be.

yea - he was always trying to get more from them yammies.

Dude was a fast rider, always on the edge. Last time I saw him, he was newly married and getting out of the sled scene...
We rode together several times, great guy.

I found the 1st Porker shirt I made. I know the others are on another computer. I may fire it up and find them. Found a few pics of the party at Pork's house in 04 too.
The lineup is Thinker, Pork, Marm, David and Mr. Indy I believe in the first group. Second is SnoSub, Thinker, Marm and Mr. Indy.

I only go to snopork's house to buy snowmobiles  :floor:
Although I will be in Belividere tonight for an outdoor hockey game.....

I have the biggest doo windshield I can get on order.  MY 1200 broke down 15 miles out.  Got stuck in reverse, the reverse servo motor failed. Was 5 below o. As I towed the hefty 1200 back.....with the wife steering it and her trusty 15 years old pantera pulling it, I noticed how much warmer her sled was, and how it was better riding over most trail bumps.  Yup.  I also had to turn the handwarmers on the old classic cat from low to off as my hands got too hot. Imagine that?  My new doo the handwarmers don't even work at those temps. To a bare hand you can barely tell they are doing anything.  This new stuff is disappointing. No need to wonder why sales are half of what they were a decade ago. Cold rider fwd shitty ride. My buddy on his new yamacat could not even keep up with us he claimed going over 25 sucked the heat right off him, he was freezing.  lol.
He is why we turned around to go back and find him when my reverse got stuck. !@*#$

Yeah, it seems that the mnfr's keep making specialized machines for different segments of the market, but they continue to fail on the basics. The fact that they make electric start sleds and they stopped providing pull chords just floors me. People fail to realize that if you get stranded at -15F, you're pretty much screwed.  :glare:

I never made any of the Porker runs, but met many of the Porkers over the years. This still turns heads when I wear it once a year at the Milwaukee Snow show. Only time I have worn it. So that makes 13? wears?  A couple of  babes posed with  me for pics last year there. Being a OF I didn't think to ask for copies.
that was my favorite shirt of them all - Thanks Marm.  Specially liked the back

I liked the one that said "we support single moms"  :punk:

Andy, if you ride Sayner area, go up on top of Musky Mt. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Porkies/Lake Superior

Porkies / Gogebic area is supposed to have good snow cover !
As should further north into the Keweenaw.

Also heard that Munision / Grand Marias area got pounded too.

All LES  :snow:

My boys and I rode Friday 12/29 and Saturday 12/30. We waited until around Noon time to start and it was +5F on both days. Returned home before night fall, as the temps were dropping quickly. Trails by me were low on snow and icy as heck. Only rode around 150 miles combined for both days, as the cold was just hard to over come. Nights got in the -10 to -15F range and my electric heat bill will surely send chills up my spine...

Lots of fun rides with that crowd ! Good group of peeps (in general). Too bad it all ended like that.
I still try to get rides in with the snopork and his kids. Kingpin, Fireballdave and Johnyvmaxdoo still ride with me. That's nearly 20 years of having the same riding group !

We met pork, SD, matt, marm, tony B, kingpin, groomer driver, thinker, sasaquanda?, sledhead tommy, 6mile, matt's dad, and several others.  May have met you too greek but don't recall.  I do agree it was a good group of guys in general.

I was "low key" first couple of years. As a matter of fact, I didn't make the very first porker run b/c I thought all you internet guys were nuts ! LOL....
After Tony B and Kingpin returned without getting ass raped, I started to attend all the remaining gatherings and became good friends with many of the guys you mentioned.

Believe it or not, my very first encounter with this crazy group of people was in Champion, MI.
My buddy Johnnyvmaxdoo and I pulled up to our hotel room at 2am and knocked on the manager's door. We've spent many nights at this particular hotel and never had any issues. She proceeded to tell us that there was a mistake and that she double booked the room and she didn't have space for us. At 2am John and I were freaking out b/c we had no idea where to stay at that time of the night. The hotel manager offered us her couch (which seemed very weird). As John and I were trying to decide what to do, I noticed this blue Yamaha sled that had a decal on the windscreen that said "Schoolmarm" I was like, I know that guy ! Lights were on and I knocked on the door.... Schoolmarm and Thinker answered the door after telling them who I was, they invited us into their room for the weekend and we drank until sunup (or pretty close). Anyway, most of the guys I met and rode with with pretty top notch dudes. Most all were safe and respectful, but there were some problem guys too, lucky for me - I never crossed paths with them personally.

Haha, Schoolmarms garage, which started the infamous floor drain discussion.

One year me and Indy6 went to the Porker Run and met Marm.  Someone on the board posted pictures of him online, which in my opinion was wrong, and the pictures caused him some problems if I recall.  I never went back to the Porker Run for that reason.  What happened there should have stayed there...
