The 3 of us must be the sole inhabitants of this website.   Trails are gonna be nice this season with all the defections from sledding this year.....hopefully that translates into really cheap low mileage sleds comng up for sale.   Phantom, you might be able to buy back in for a pittance.   You might want to come out here and ride with Charlie and I so you don't get lonely.

Next time you're in Florence, you ride West and pick me up, we'll ride West'er and meet Snopork in Watersmeet or Land O Lakes, ish....

and RD can bring GD with him so he doesnt get lost.   Too bad MrIndy has gone off the radar and Schoolmarm is now got to be writhing in embarrassment for voting for Trump( I know I am - but I really voted against Hillary and not for Trump, look what that Bee-otch made me doo).  had Facebook comm with Burper the other day - maybe we can convince him to ride again.  Squeak is still lost in Canada, eh.  FlyinV is in the snow removal biz so when sleddin is good - he's gotta work.  Maybe we can get a weekend Ride set up this year.   Are any of your Tug Hill crowd poundin trails still Phantom?

You are correct that there are fewer sledders, or at least people that register their sleds. It is having a bad effect on funding from the DNR. Every year we are getting less funding. Two years without snow didn't help.

I have been so busy working on my house and shed, that it is hampering my golf time. Haven't had the boat out once this year, and it will be soon back in my backyard.

3rd try to post, keeps losing it somewhere.......

I check in once a week or so, not enough traffic to check more. FB and Tweety are killing chat boards.

Haven't put more than 100-150 miles/season on for 8-9 years. Just no time. At least that way I won't have to replace my old 02ZR8CC soon. With crappy winters and the abso-frickin-crazy prices, I'm moderately ok with that.

Sold our camper in July. Our 2 old Honda ATV's keep my boy busy out back in the low-snow times. Once in a great while we get an actual ride in. I keep the wife's 08F6 at home and my ZR at the shop, so I have something to ride wherever I am.

Not a whole lot happening at Trail Conditions. com NY boards either.
There is a major trail closure in the town of Redfield a timber company that owns a lot of land is fighting with the town to get a wind farm approved. The town does not want the towers so the timber company shut down snowmobile access to get back at them...

I am still alive and ticking.  Last year I retired from IL DOT and fled the state with my pension.  Took a job with Wisconsin DOT (NE Madison) and living just off I-39 near Lodi.   Have lied pretty low in the last year.

Our daughters live in Galena and Madison so they were not keeping us in Byron.
I am not involved with Illinois organized snowmobiling anymore but I am keeping in touch with people and attending events. I will be at the Tri-County snow show next month Sept 8th.
Never got to ride around here much last year but it is pretty good, nice rolling terrain and good grooming.

I hear ya.... I'm actually getting close to a job change, after 23 years at the same place. Owners are splitting apart and I've been offered part of the company, but I'm really not looking to be partners in a failing business right now. Got a couple irons in the fire, but I wanted to see how things were going to shake out. I'd prefer staying here, as is, if that was at all possible. I enjoy the freedoms I have right now with my kids in three travel sports and sled season upon us

Hey!  Welcome to the club...Denise and I retired in January.  We each had 32+ years with AmFam in Madison

Was up your way last weekend helping FOM's widowed GF with a few things.  Stopped in to SS sport and had lunch at the Lazy Ace.

Good to hear from you.  I'll probably spend a little more time up north from now on.  I'm really getting used to this not going to work thingy and watching the wife and boys head off to school.  Now If I can get this deferred house maintenance caught up and Uncle Sam can get my full annuity figured ou tI'd actually plan  a weekend(OK, forget about restricting to the weekend-hard to get out of habits) "retired dudes" getaway.

My "build up" will get knocked down very soon, as college years are approaching for my two sons. I will help them as much as I can, but I plan on having them take loans for 50% so they keep their heads in the game. After they graduate, I hope to help them pay down their debt. I made a deal with both of them. If either or both get a free ride due to their sports I will buy them a new car at graduation

Greek that's a bad deal as it places emphasis on athletics instead of academics.  Re-negotiate that deal to be you'll co-sign a car loan if they get a free ride due to good grades.  If you still want to give them something, forgive the car loan when they graduate from college.

Yup. Just IMO of course. Sports are a dead end. Most people overestimate their chances- 1 in a million make it to a financially lucrative position, and then it's a huge longshot they last more than a couple years. Brains will get you to retirement age.

I'm fortunate. Both kids are HEAVY into travel sports, but they are both A students, taking honors / AP courses and both in the National Honors Society.
In today's sports, you really can't have "average" grades and be looked at. You need to have it all, just to get that 1 % chance to move forward.
My oldest son plays Tier II, AA hockey and hopes to make a NAHL or USHL team in the next 1-2 years. From there, he hopes to play D1 college hockey. If life doesn't go as planned, there is always D2 or D3 hockey schools too (but at D3, it would only be for fun and to stay in shape). Hockey is extremely cut throat and you need to catch someone's eye to move forward at a high level.

My youngest son plays AAU travel basketball and AAA travel baseball. He also does Jr High basketball and track. This kid is a flat out natural to sports. Makes everything look easy. If he can keep his drive and keep his head into it, he'll go pretty far in life. However, he's also the one I'm most concerned about b/c he's never had any failure in his life. Coaches beg for him to be on their teams and he's never not made a team before.

Not Dead, but a significant change in career has severely cut down on my free time. for Nearly 2 years now I have been in the Marine industry and all I can say there is no time when you are in a business like this.  The jury is still out on whether this was a good move or not.

The dali-lama of sled appraisals (says freak) is still alive.  Its good to see some of the familiar handles here.  I don't check in often at all.
I surf other sites like fb and cl mostly and on my g7, don't use the home computer much anymore.  We have a new 018 eltigre 8000 in the fleet this season, but I wont bore ya'll with any appraisal lol.  Just went riding this Saturday, froze really bad.  underdressed and no hand warmers on the xp1000. We have 2" in the hills.

Another NY guy still kicking. I've done very little riding the last couple of years. Just a little local riding when snow permits. I've had no sled transport since buying a new truck a couple of years ago. I still have the ramp system that was in my last 2 trucks, but it needs some maintenance and I would have to modify the tailgate cables like I did for my '09. I kept the extensions I made for it, so I should be able to use them on the '14, I just haven't looked at it that close yet. Since I quit my job last June and I'm taking some time off (calling it a semi-retirement) I may take a whack at it this year.

Hey guys. Yeah it's been a while. I did start looking at putting the ramp setup in the current pickup yesterday. Found my cable extensions. They are needed again. They look like they'll work with some engineering work on the shoulder bolts they attach to. I vaguely remember this problem with the '09 too. Hopefully, I'll be mobile this year and take advantage of the time off and get out to Tug Hill and some of the south of the Mohawk trails.

I'm still kick'n. Although I didn't kick much from early May till a month or so ago.  ;) Slipped in the yard early May and broke my left fibula  (small bone just above the ankle joint) Later found a stress fracture in the middle toe. Had never broken a bone in my body till then and didn't understand how people could break so many bones. After that I don't understand how I haven't broken a dozen bones.

Think I've mentioned on here that I retired July of 15. Counter on my phone says 873 days. I had the countdown running on there for retirement so I just left it running.   As Hal mentioned, "Don't know how I had time to work before I retired".  Spend a lot of time mowing, grading maintaining snowmobile/ATV trails for our snowmobile club. We do about 130 miles so it keeps us busy.

He he, no more shifting in the groomer this winter.  The club put Soucy tracks on our 2011 125 hp John Deere with the IVT (infinitely variable transmission) Been a long wait.

I here you :). Never understood people that say they'd be bored if they retired.

Got the ramp system in over the last couple of days. Did a test load today. Worked like champ. Looks like I'm mobile this year

AJaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay,

You won't be boring anybody, brought mine home yesterday.  Still need to get the mirrors, 4 wheel kit and other stuff hooked up.

IS that the eltigre 8000?  Gonna be a great snowmobile.  I'm waiting for a lower rider CG  lake racer from Cat I heard a rumor about.

Yup, 8.  My first "long track" if you consider a 137 long in today's world.

What are you hearing about this new cat???  Last "low rider" they had was the 1990 EXT special with the short chrome moly spindles.  They had weak cranks though.  Mine broke on trail #2 one night in the U.P. cruzin along at 75mph.  Man things get dark in a hurry when that happens.  :help:    Dealer had a whole new motor in it from Cat within 4 days.   That crank lasted the next 2,500 miles I had the sled.

Yammie Sidewinder is on the preferred list. Low riders, as they were, will never be back. Big bore triples, are just a dream. Lake racers not enough market. All the mfg's R&D money is going to the mountain segment.

Oh well, I had to retire from sledding sooner or later.  I guess it will be when my gsx is worn out.  Then I will put around house with vintage.  No real world word on the new Cat di8. I don't think it will be ahead of the doo 850, might be as good....but that is a tall order.  I'm just not a fan of the Procross ergonomics or stability at least up until the 2015 model my buddy runs.  My other buddy has the supposed "shit" from Ac for 018, the eltigre 8000.  I will be sure to get some seat time soon.

Nothing wrong with that qik. T-cats are legends. Can I ask if those trophies are recent? Are you running in a Vintage only class?

RD, picture was from September. "Vintage" racing is generally 1981 & older. This year several events added "Classic" classes from 1982 - 2002.

We tried the "Classic" class. Just didn't bring out many sleds.

We ran both vintage and classic sleds this season.  Vintage definitely has more entries but classic is catching on now, especially with spectators.  The muscle sleds - T-cat, Vmax4, SRX8, XCR8, Storm, Mach Z, ZRT8 - bring spectators to the fence when you line them up.  Especially when they've been watching vintage 340's & 440's run the grass all afternoon.

Still Alive and kicking. I have an XRS8 in the stable and just moved my office to my house so I am hoping to be able to Ski and Snowmobile more during weekdays. Not having to go into the corporate office will definatly free up recreation time. Plus I have been putting in 70's all year at a Superfund project and have all my PTO saved up. Merry Christmas everyone !

I a'm surprised that you aren't suffering from burnout, working that many hours. My rule of thumb was to limit myself to no more than 50 hours per week when I was a wage slave.

RD, I'm not 100% sure. Maybe I'm thinking SRX7?  What I do know is a well tuned 98' SRX has outrun my T-cat in 500 ft. on grass.

You work that many hours, you fall asleep at your desk trying to read the paper or so lose interest in doing any fun things like fishing, snowmobiling or visiting with friends.

The SRX in its last form was a triple/triple 700 that hauled ass.  The Viper 700 triple/single was a different motor and had less oomph.

Not sure its the same rob.  I found an obituary for rob lyon but not rob Lyons .... Did'nt he start freedom sledder?   Yeah he used to ride big miles. He also did aerial photography if its the same rob I'm thinking of...?

speaking of freedom sledder...lmao.  Not even a sled talk site anymore. I saw the libtards flock to that site 10 or more years ago, left immediately and never looked back.  Not even interested in seeing what foolish things they are saying so not going to register to just to look at that garbage.

2quik,

The changeover happened in late 2003 which is why it shows you joined in 2004, the moderators made the change to restrict multiple identities and language thus making this site really milquetoast. If you remember we had tons of alias members and some serious ball busting. Like the 3-4 snoporks (snopork1 - kinda sounds like airforce 1) etc. Fun times and lots of hits for the site owners.

Lots of fun rides with that crowd ! Good group of peeps (in general). Too bad it all ended like that.
I still try to get rides in with the snopork and his kids. Kingpin, Fireballdave and Johnyvmaxdoo still ride with me. That's nearly 20 years of having the same riding group !

I was "low key" first couple of years. As a matter of fact, I didn't make the very first porker run b/c I thought all you internet guys were nuts ! LOL....
After Tony B and Kingpin returned without getting ass raped, I started to attend all the remaining gatherings and became good friends with many of the guys you mentioned.

Believe it or not, my very first encounter with this crazy group of people was in Champion, MI.
My buddy Johnnyvmaxdoo and I pulled up to our hotel room at 2am and knocked on the manager's door. We've spent many nights at this particular hotel and never had any issues. She proceeded to tell us that there was a mistake and that she double booked the room and she didn't have space for us. At 2am John and I were freaking out b/c we had no idea where to stay at that time of the night. The hotel manager offered us her couch (which seemed very weird). As John and I were trying to decide what to do, I noticed this blue Yamaha sled that had a decal on the windscreen that said "Schoolmarm" I was like, I know that guy ! Lights were on and I knocked on the door.... Schoolmarm and Thinker answered the door after telling them who I was, they invited us into their room for the weekend and we drank until sunup (or pretty close). Anyway, most of the guys I met and rode with with pretty top notch dudes. Most all were safe and respectful, but there were some problem guys too, lucky for me - I never crossed paths with them personally.

Its funny that you mention Thinker and Marm in the same room - Thinker was the one who posted the marm pics and started a ruckus.  Kind of split that group up.

I rode with MrIndy and FlyinV for a few years after that but as Kids got older we have kind of dropped off.  MrIndy, FlyinV, my brother and I went out to the Snowies one year and rented sleds.  Was a lot of fun even with the record high temps.

I never made any of the Porker runs, but met many of the Porkers over the years. This still turns heads when I wear it once a year at the Milwaukee Snow show. Only time I have worn it. So that makes 13? wears?  A couple of  babes posed with  me for pics last year there. Being a OF I didn't think to ask for copies.

I found the 1st Porker shirt I made. I know the others are on another computer. I may fire it up and find them. Found a few pics of the party at Pork's house in 04 too.
The lineup is Thinker, Pork, Marm, David and Mr. Indy I believe in the first group. Second is SnoSub, Thinker, Marm and Mr. Indy.
